THE LIGHTHOUSE BETWEEN TIDES

The Lighthouse Between Tides is a fictional book cover design project created for a literary fiction and magical realism novel by Eleanor Brooks, imagined for North Harbor Publishing’s Spring 2027 catalogue.

The story follows Mara, a 30 year old woman who returns to her coastal hometown after the death of her grandmother. While going through her belongings, she discovers journals about a mysterious lighthouse that appears from beneath the sea every seven years, allowing anyone who reaches it to revisit a single memory exactly as it happened.

The story explores memory, grief, family legacy, nostalgia, healing and learning to let go of the past.

For the cover, I wanted to capture the feeling of a lost or distant memory rather than making the magical element feel dark or dramatic. I used a soft painterly illustration of a lone lighthouse surrounded by the sea, with flowing textures inspired by wind and tides. The hand drawn typography adds to this movement and gives the cover a more personal, nostalgic quality.
