French Damask Pattern | Surface Pattern Design

This personal project explores the structure, symmetry and ornamental character of traditional French damask patterns. I wanted to study the way botanical motifs are arranged and repeated to create a sense of rhythm, balance and elegance.

I developed a set of flowing botanical motifs and experimented with their placement, scale and spacing to build a cohesive seamless repeat. The final pattern uses a classic blue and white colour palette, giving the traditional damask language a cleaner and more contemporary feel.

I also explored how the pattern could translate across different scales and physical applications, including wallpaper, ceramics, table linens, textiles and home décor. The aim was to create a versatile pattern that could move naturally between different products while maintaining its ornamental character.
